School of Architecture: The Structure
Parallel Processing and Movement
Moving Part 1: The Ring
Rotational movement appears throughout nature and the ring is a means of travelling in ways elevators cannot. From the ground, students access the various pavillions and platforms via The Ring (stops highlighted in brown). The glass covering allows views and orientation to be taken in while travelling. Inside, Platforms inside provide a more open and social transit between viewpoints.
Moving Part 2: The Slope
The Slope raises from the lower floor of the garden area, connecting the user to the higher level and related lookouts/ spaces. The movement of The Slope unites people to a higher perspective of the structure they are in, and thus allows for a living interaction between structure and user.
Tutorial Spaces
The tutorial spaces have been integrated into the open spaces for students to circulate/ meet, seamless movement is integral to the design and so open plan substructures are reccurring.
Below and on the left is a hanging body of water, into which sunlight pours, evaporating molecules of water and warming/ humidifying air, thus countering the possible cold from the opening beneath. There is a symbiotic interaction between built environment, user, and position withing the circulatory space.
Staff Spaces
The research space (top) has a large glass roof the collects sunlight from the larger sturcture skylight. naturally heating the concrete platforms (thermal mass).
